I know this is the time of the year everyone reflects back on the year that is ending and we think ahead to how the new year will be different. Sometimes we make the changes but many times we do not, we stay in our old ways and habits.
As I was getting ready this morning for church it dawned on me that I needed to make a change, a change for the better. I had let life and laziness crowd out my time I was spending with God. Oh, I still spent a little time with Him, but it wasn’t the same as it had been in the past. It was almost like I was giving God my leftovers when He deserves my first and best.
Where I Belong by Cory Asbury summed up all that I was feeling and desiring to change. God’s presence needs to be our first focus, that needs to be what we long for, what we desire. That is where we belong. When we are in God’s continual presence then whatever life throws at us doesn’t appear so big, especially when we make the problem stand before our big God. Our Daddy God is bigger than everything life throws our way!!!!
One thing I have discovered helping in sozo ministries and other ministries is that people do not really know who they are in Christ. We do not know the amazing promises God has given us, and we do not really grasp how truly good or God is. We tend to view life’s problems, sicknesses, and situations as being God’s punishment or infliction upon us for whatever reason.
God does discipline those He loves but I do not believe He disciplines us by bringing troubles or sickness upon us. He is too loving and kind to do so. What parent would do that to their children? Not a good one, that much I know, and God is a good, loving, and kind father. If you have incorrectly blamed God for your troubles or sickness, then all you need to do is ask Him for forgiveness and He will be extremely quick to forgive.
So as we end out 2017 and prepare to begin 2018 give God your first and best. I know that quality and not quantity count with Him, if you just have a few minutes when you first wake up in the morning, or even a few minutes of peace when you are in the bathroom, begin to praise Him, begin to love on Him, give Him your day, if you are facing things that are too big for you to bear then ask Him for His strength and help to get you through to the other side. Make time to get back into His word, it is His word that will provide what we need to defeat the enemy. If you don’t know where to start or what to read then Mike Bickle says to just start in the New Testament and read through it. Personally I also incorporate a little psalms and proverbs.
The verse below so greatly sums up all I have been trying to say. Let us begin to do what it says and I believe as we draw near to God He in turn will draw near to us.
Let everyone give all their praise and thanks to the Lord! Here’s why – He’s better than anyone could ever imagine. Yes, He’s always loving and kind, and His faithful love never ends. Ps 107:1 TPT
